Farming Practices

Efficiency, sustainability and cost effectiveness are the key words in our daily farming practices.

Our main tractors are equipped with GPS, to operate within 1-inch precision. By always using the same tracks where no onions will be growing, we try to stimulate root development and healthy plant growth. By using RTK GPS, mechanical damage to the crops and overlapping application of pesticides and fertilizers are minimized.

This is a start up in the complicated and very extended process of precision farming.

Precision Farming

The efforts we made are mostly based on saving on the main resources, by simply putting these resources where they are the most effective: in the root zone and on the leafs.

  • Water: saving up to 60% by using drip irrigation in combination with decision supporting software. There is no evaporation and no doubled zones.
  • Fertilizers:
    • Application at variable rate prescriptions
    • Row application at planting
    • Fertigation = injecting liquid fertilizers with drip irrigation.
  • Chemicals:
    • Application of herbicides based on variable rate prescriptions
    • The application with HARDI air assistant sprayer gives better coverage on the leaves by using the smallest droplets. It significantly reduces chemical drift into the environment and decreases active matter on fungicides by 25%.

We build soil fertility, by growing two years on a row of green manure crops in a rotation.  This provides organic matter and decreases the bad organism in the soil. The soil can keep more moisture is richer on nutrients and needs less chemical control.

With decision supporting software we are able to save on resources as much as possible. We take all possible action to make sure we can guarantee safe and healthy onions to our consumers.
